A full-scale haunted house inside real mansion ruins does not happen in most cities. Ours runs Friday through Sunday nights, October 9 through November 1, at Wildcliff Mansion, 44 Wildcliff Rd, overlooking Echo Bay. Hours are 7:00 to 10:30 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, 6:30 to 10:00 PM on Sundays, closed October 18. Admission is 25 dollars with timed entry, 40 for a Fast Pass and 75 for VIP.
Book a time slot if you want a specific night. The city's announcement recommends ages 10 and up, and no child under 15 goes in unaccompanied. It also names what you are walking into: strobe lights, fog, confined spaces and uneven ground. Tickets are at hauntatwildcliff.com.
The producers are the Hudson Park Children's Greenhouse, and its two builders go back a long way. David O'Neil, an Eastchester teacher who runs Discover Camp in Hawthorne, taught a Halloween in July class that a young David Calamari took. Seventeen years later, Calamari designs haunted attractions across the country through his own scenic studio, and the two of them build Wildcliff together.
If jump scares are not for you, skip it cleanly. ArtsFest starts Thursday, and its free mural trolley tour is the calmer way to see the city.

Is there a haunted house in New Rochelle this year?
Yes, and it is a big one. The Haunt at Wildcliff Mansion runs Friday through Sunday nights from October 9 through November 1 at 44 Wildcliff Rd, closed October 18. Hours run 7:00 to 10:30 PM on Fridays and Saturdays and 6:30 to 10:00 PM on Sundays. Admission is 25 dollars timed entry, 40 for a Fast Pass, 75 for VIP, recommended for ages 10 and up. The Hudson Park Children's Greenhouse produces it, and the city's announcement lists the strobes, fog and tight passages before you pay.
Will it rain on the ArtsFest weekend in New Rochelle?
The week splits in half. Sunday is the washout: rain mainly after 2 PM, an 80 percent chance with a quarter to half inch possible, then a thunderstorm chance Sunday night with gusts to 26 mph. Monday clears to 70 by afternoon, Tuesday turns mostly sunny at 71 with a small shower chance after 2 PM, Wednesday is sunny at 65, and Thursday sunny at 62. ArtsFest itself looks dry. Thursday through Sunday currently show no rain in the forecast. No weather alerts were active for New Rochelle this morning.
When can you tour the tall ship Lynx in New Rochelle?
Saturday, October 17, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the marina dock at Hudson Park, and the tours are free. Parking at Hudson Park is free, and the tour tickets get distributed there. The Lynx, a replica privateer schooner, stays moored through ArtsFest weekend as part of the city's Revolution on the Sound! 250th programming. Toast 250! Tavern Night runs Wednesday, 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Kenny's on the Water, 2 Pelham Road, with the Lynx moored where you can see it.
Sunday is the wet day. Rain arrives mainly after 2 PM, an 80 percent chance with up to half an inch, and Sunday night adds a thunderstorm chance with gusts to 26 mph. The Paine to Paine half marathon starts 9:00 AM at New Rochelle High School, ahead of most of it, but expect wet roads into the afternoon. Monday keeps a 30 percent morning shower chance, then clears to 70.
The leaf rules from DPW, re-checked against the city notice: leaves go out in biodegradable paper bags or open containers up to 75 lbs, never plastic bags or loose piles, which can bring fines. North end pickup runs Monday and Tuesday, south end Wednesday and Thursday, bags at the curb by 7:00 AM, Friday covers holidays, and Thanksgiving week has no collection. Yard waste ends October 24 and must be set out separately from leaves. The notice on the city site is the 2025 posting, so confirm the details for your block with DPW before the first pickup.
AI Corner: one plain-English AI thing, every issue
This week: have an AI plan your ArtsFest weekend.
ArtsFest spreads more than 40 venues and around 250 artists across four days, from Friday's MOTH Story Slam to Saturday's Makers Market at Thomas Paine Cottage. That is too much to read cold. Hand the calendar to an AI with a prompt like this: "Here is the ArtsFest calendar: [paste it]. I am free Saturday afternoon with a 9-year-old and a 13-year-old. Build a three-stop plan with walking time between stops, and one backup plan if it rains."
The rain backup matters most. Studios, galleries and the library stops survive a shower. The car show and the outdoor markets do not. Make the AI sort the plan by what happens if the sky opens, then check its picks against the real calendar at newrochellearts.org before you drive.
