The Lead

A tall ship drops anchor at Hudson Park this month The Lynx arrives Oct 14 for the 250th, with free tours Oct 17 during ArtsFest, and an NRHS senior reaches the National Merit semifinals (3 min)

A full-scale replica of a War of 1812-era privateer schooner ties up at Hudson Park this month, and boarding it is free. The Lynx, a square topsail schooner, visits as part of Revolution on the Sound!, the series marking the 250th anniversary of the founding of the country, and she is the only Westchester County stop on her Eastern Seaboard ports-of-call schedule.

The welcome happens first. Toast 250! Tavern Night runs Wednesday, Oct 14, 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Kenny's on the Water, 2 Pelham Road, and it is free. Costumed reenactors play George Washington, Ben Franklin, Col. John Glover and British Gen. Howe, The Whiskey Rebels supply tavern music, Philipse Manor Hall brings historical tavern games, and American Revolution trivia with Westchester questions runs 7:30 to 9:00. The ship sits moored in the marina, visible from Kenny's, and Captain Peacock and crew may make an appearance.

The boarding happens second. Public tours run Saturday, Oct 17, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Hudson Park & Beach, 1 Hudson Park Road, with guided tours, living history interpreters, period games and food trucks. The city lists the visit as free admission, and Oct 17 is the Saturday of ArtsFest, so the Makers Market at Thomas Paine Cottage and the dance festival at NRHS sit minutes away. You can build a full 250th-plus-arts day out of one loop.

AI Corner: one plain-English AI thing, every issue

This week: turn the 250th calendar into a weekend plan you can follow.

Revolution on the Sound! spans two weeks and at least four venues, from Toast 250 at Kenny's on the Water to the Lynx tours at Hudson Park, the Colonial Tavern Experience at 18th Ward Brewing, and the ArtsFest Makers Market at Thomas Paine Cottage. Keeping the times straight in your head is the hard part. Try this: "Here is the calendar of New Rochelle 250th and ArtsFest events [paste it]. I am free Saturday Oct 17 from morning to late afternoon and I walk from Hudson Park. Build me one timed plan with walking distances, and flag anything that needs a ticket." You get a workable day in one pass instead of six browser tabs.

Check the plan against the city calendar before you set out, because times shift and AI summaries miss updates. The free stuff books out or gets crowded first, so the earlier you lock Saturday, the better the day.
