The Lead

The coast clears at 3 this afternoon, and the mayor takes the stage Oct 27 one to two feet of inundation possible on the midday tide, showers gone by 2 PM, and a State of the City set for Oct 27 at the JCC with new businesses on hand (3 min)

The storm exits on a downgrade. The Coastal Flood Warning that covered the weekend ended at 6 PM Sunday, and the National Weather Service has a lighter Coastal Flood Advisory in place for today: from 11 AM to 3 PM, one to two feet of inundation above ground level is possible in vulnerable spots near the waterfront and shoreline, with minor flooding of low-lying roads, parking lots, parks and basements close to the water.

The rain is almost done too. Today holds a 70 percent chance of showers before 2 PM under a high near 64, with less than a tenth of an inch of new rain, and then the pattern flips: Tuesday is mostly sunny near 71, Wednesday mostly sunny near 73, and Thursday and Friday both mostly sunny near 77.

Once the water settles, the city's next big date is a month out. Mayor Yadira Ramos-Herbert delivers the 2026 State of the City address on Tuesday, October 27, at JCC Mid-Westchester, with doors at 6 PM and the address at 6:30. The evening includes New Ro Biz, with new businesses and entrepreneurs on hand, and refreshments after the address. It is free and open to the public, but seating is limited, and the city asks residents to RSVP at newrochelleny.gov/SOTCRSVP.

The manageable piece today is keeping cars and basement checks away from the low-lying shoreline streets until 3. If the State of the City belongs on your calendar, RSVP now while seats last.

AI Corner: one plain-English AI thing, every issue

This week: ask AI to build your State of the City question list.

Reservations aside, the address is a rare open line to the mayor, and a good question beats a general one. Try: "Here is my city's announcement of its upcoming State of the City address [paste it]. I live in New Rochelle and care about [your topics: housing, schools, the waterfront, downtown]. Draft three specific questions I could bring to the event or send to my council member, and tell me what each one asks the mayor to commit to." Then RSVP at newrochelleny.gov/SOTCRSVP; the event is Oct 27 and seats are limited.

Reply with questions; they become future AI Corners.
