The Lead

Free tours of the tall ship Lynx run 10 to 4 today, and the weather cooperates tickets and parking both sit at Hudson Park, tonight brings a colonial tavern, and Sunday adds Taste of Lincoln (2 min)

The tall ship Lynx takes visitors today, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, at the Municipal Marina dock. It is a replica of a historic privateer, which is a privately owned ship licensed to raid on a government's behalf, and the city brought it in as the centerpiece of its Revolution on the Sound! 250th programming. The logistics are simple: free parking sits at Hudson Park, and the free tour tickets get handed out there too. Park, grab tickets, walk to the dock.

Hudson Park does more than hold your car. The city's announcement builds a mini festival of history around the ship: reenactors portraying General William Howe and Marbleheader John Glover, live music, colonial games from Philips Manor Hall Historic Site, and booths on the American Revolution. If the dock line runs long, the park carries the visit.

The sky plays along today. Clouds sit through mid-morning, then it clears gradually to a high near 52, with north wind gusting to 26 mph. Tonight falls to 37 under mostly clear skies, and Sunday comes back sunny and 55. The wind off the Sound decides how long you linger on deck, so pack the layer you think you will not need.

If Saturday gets away from you, the 250th does not end at the dock. Sunday morning brings the Battle of Pell's Point reenactment, 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with viewing at Orchard Beach.

What is Taste of Lincoln?

The city's newest Taste Of event runs Sunday, October 18, 1:00 to 6:00 PM at Lincoln Park, with signature dishes, live music and vendors, according to the city's announcement posted Friday. Council Member David Peters framed it as a celebration of the neighborhood's culture, and City Manager Wilfredo Melendez tied it to the character and spirit of the area. The announcement credits community chairs Pastor Leroy H. Jordan and LeChonne Williams as key to putting the day together, and the city's calendar lists the location as Lincoln Park and Pool.

Which Wildcliff nights work for younger kids?

Little Haunters is the scaled-down version of The Haunt: Sunday, October 18, 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, and again on Halloween, October 31, 4:00 to 7:30 PM. Admission is 12 dollars per person, timed entry, which means you reserve an arrival window instead of a seat. The city's calendar listing promises no jump scares, warns that lighting, sound and fog effects stay active, and puts trick-or-treating at the end. The main haunt sits out Sunday while the family version has the building.

AI Corner: one plain-English AI thing, every issue

This week: write your State of the City questions before October 27.

The State of the City lands October 27, and it is the one night a year the mayor's office takes the room's questions. Walk in with yours written. Paste the city's recent announcements into an AI chat (the CivicAlerts list on newrochelleny.gov works), then try this: "Here are recent City of New Rochelle announcements: [paste]. I live near [your street or school]. Draft five specific questions I could ask at the State of the City, each tied to one city service, one sentence each."

Then do the human check. The AI only knows what you pasted, so confirm any number or claim against the city's own page before you ask it in a room full of neighbors.
